Manhwa Review: Father I Don’t Want This Marriage Vol. 3

Between Juvelian’s desperate plotting, Max’s delusional romance, and a father’s heartbreaking sacrifices, Volume 3 of Father I Don’t Want This Marriage alternates between heartbreaking chaos and intense emotional depth. This ride will never be forgotten because of the cat-and-mouse games, conflicting loyalties, and hidden secrets.

Is Lady Juvelian at greater risk of dying at the hands of her father’s political enemies . . . or of falling in love? This manhwa adaptation of Hong Heesu’s webnovel is now available in English print for the first time.

Desperate to appear unavailable for marriage to the tyrannical Crown Prince Maximilian—the villain of her previous life—Juvelian has proposed a contract relationship with her father’s rebellious protégé. At first glance, he’s the perfect choice, but a veil of misunderstandings hides a dark truth that could challenge Juvelian’s attempts to change her future.

Meanwhile, political schemes and old grudges are moving in the shadows of the imperial court, and Juvelian’s father, Duke Floyen, stands at the heart of them. As the crown prince seeks to solidify his power, the emperor tightens his hold over the duke.

Father, I Don’t Want This Marriage Vol. 3 Story Review:

Volume 3 was a total roller coaster! Max and Juvelian shared many nice, wholesome moments in the first half. Their playful dynamic shows Max, the hopeless lover boy, totally smitten, and Juvelian, who is unaware of his feelings, seeing him only as a way to avoid marrying the Crown Prince. Max always misreads her words, believing she is confessing love when in fact she is only plotting to escape her fate. The misunderstandings are funny. Their cat-and-mouse chase exactly reflects their personalities, so their interactions are both amusing and charming.

Things then take an unexpected turn when Juvelian’s father finds out about their “relationship.” Panicked, he tries to stop Max, the notorious tyrant prince, from using his charm to manipulate her. Little does he know, even if no one else thinks so, Max’s feelings are real. Driven by protective anger and stubborn pride, Max and her father clash violently. Watching them clash, each sure they know what is best for Juvelian, is both annoying and entertaining.

The emotional gut punch at the end, however, is what really turns this volume into a roller coaster. Her father’s point of view is finally revealed to us, including his traumatic past, the violence he has attempted to protect Juvelian from, and the tragic sacrifices he must make for the emperor’s benefit. To be honest, I started crying even while typing this review. Despite being twisted by duty, his love for her is so unadulterated and desperate. (Yes, I despise the emperor. That man needs to be punched.)

With a mix of heartbreak, tension, and humor, this volume delves deeply into character dynamics. Misunderstandings, conflicts, and hidden depths all combine to create a chaotic, intense, and completely engaging whole.

Father, I Don’t Want This Marriage Vol. 3 Design Review:

The third volume is stunning! Instead of the brighter colors from earlier volumes, the font has a matte finish, which I adore because it looks great on the cover. The blue text is still very readable without being overpowering, despite being matte and a little less bright than the others. This volume is the prettiest of the three thus far because of the understated yet pleasant selection.

With the exception of the text treatment, the Korean and English editions are almost identical. The Korean edition has a lovely ombré effect, with the text beginning darker at the top and progressively lightening toward the bottom, whereas the English version uses a solid, slightly matte lighter blue. The Korean cover gains amazing depth from this gradient. I can’t help but wish the English version had kept that lovely ombré from the original, even though it still has flawless readability thanks to its crisp, consistent coloring.
