Nintendo has announced Kirby Air Riders, a new racing game set to launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025. This title marks the return of the beloved Kirby Air Ride series after more than two decades. The game is directed by the legendary Masahiro Sakurai, the original creator of Kirby and the Super Smash Bros. series.
Kirby Air Riders is a brand new title that serves as a successor to the 2003 GameCube classic, Kirby Air Ride. The original game was well-known for its simplified controls and engaging multiplayer modes, including the “City Trial” mode, where players gather power-ups in the city before competing in different challenges.
While specific gameplay details for the new installment were not revealed, we can hope for the return of such modes to follow the modern graphics and new features.
The announcement was made during Nintendo’s recent Switch 2 Direct presentation, which also unveiled other major titles like Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, Donkey Kong Bananza and The Duskbloods by FromSoftware.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled for release on June 5, 2025, with Kirby Air Riders expected to follow later in the year. You can also see our full recap of the first Nintendo Switch 2 direct for all the revealed information on the console.
